Amazon's Zoox has officially launched its highly anticipated robotaxi service in Las Vegas, offering free rides to the public.
The service, which has been in development for several years, will initially provide rides to five designated locations in the entertainment district, including major hotels and resorts.
The robotaxis, which are designed to carry up to four passengers, will travel a maximum distance of about three miles.
This public debut follows two years of testing the driverless vehicles with employees, their friends, and family members.
The decision to offer free rides for the first few months is intended to promote the service and build public confidence in the safety of driverless vehicles.
