The hugely popular quartet of amateur detectives from Coopers Chase retirement village have returned for their fifth adventure in Richard Osman’s new novel, *The Impossible Fortune*, published in hardback by Viking.
Enigmatic Elizabeth, thoughtful measured Ibrahim, gruff Ron, and the always chatty Joyce are all back together to tackle a fresh, complex case.
The new mystery is kicked off when Elizabeth is accosted at a wedding by an individual who claims their life is under threat.
Beyond the central puzzle, Osman uses the new instalment to delve into the more profound emotional territory, specifically exploring the ‘paralysing impact of grief’ on Elizabeth.
The narrative also sees Ron’s family life thoroughly knocked off kilter as the story progresses.
