Sky Sports has unveiled a significant expansion of its Premier League coverage for the 2025-26 season, increasing live broadcasts from 128 to 215 matches and introducing enhanced features like Multiview and a Sunday evening analysis show hosted by Jamie Carragher.
The broadcaster is also exploring lifting the long-standing UK-only Saturday 3 pm blackout—a move motivated by a desire to combat piracy, which media executives warn is facilitated by illegal streaming of blacked-out matches.
Sky’s managing director, Jonathan Licht, and pundits such as Gary Neville argue that lifting the blackout could reduce piracy and better serve fans, although the blackout remains in place under the current TV deal.
This development could mark a major shift in UK football broadcasting policy.
