Strawberry Moon 2026: When and Where to See June's Full Moon in the UK

Stargazers and space enthusiasts across the UK will have the opportunity to witness June's full moon — known as the Strawberry Moon — rising in the night sky this Tuesday, 30 June.

The Strawberry Moon is expected to peak during the early hours of Tuesday morning, making Monday night and the following evening the ideal times to look skyward for a clear view of this natural celestial event.

This particular full moon carries extra astronomical interest as it also qualifies as a micromoon, meaning the Moon will appear slightly smaller and less luminous than usual.

This is because the Moon is positioned near apogee — the farthest point of its elliptical orbit from Earth — resulting in it covering a smaller portion of the sky than at perigee.

Despite the slight reduction in apparent size, the Strawberry Moon is still a spectacular sight and will be clearly visible across the UK, weather permitting.

The name Strawberry Moon originates from Native American traditions, where this June full moon traditionally coincided with the peak of the strawberry-harvesting season.

It marks the first full moon of astronomical summer in 2026, following the summer solstice earlier this month.

Observers should seek out a location with a wide, unobstructed view of the eastern horizon and allow their eyes to adjust to the darkness.

Cloud cover permitting, the southeast of England is expected to have the best visibility on Monday night.
