West Ham United have made their first major signing of the summer transfer window, securing the services of El Hadji Malick Diouf from Czech club Slavia Prague.
The £19 million deal for the 20-year-old Senegal international was confirmed, with Diouf signing a long-term contract at the London Stadium and taking the number 12 shirt.
Diouf is the third player to make the switch from Slavia Prague to West Ham, following in the footsteps of Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek.
West Ham's manager, Graham Potter, expressed his pleasure with the signing, describing Diouf as a young, hungry, and ambitious player who the club has been watching for some time.
The defender also shared his excitement about joining the Hammers and fulfilling his 'dream' of playing in the Premier League.
The transfer is a key story for UK football fans, particularly West Ham supporters, as it represents a significant investment in a promising young talent and a potential solution to a long-standing position of need.
