Arsenal has announced the unexpected departure of its executive vice-chair, Tim Lewis, as part of a major restructuring of its boardroom.
Lewis, a key figure in the Kroenke Sports and Entertainment (KSE) group since 2007 and executive vice-chair since 2023, was instrumental in the club's recent successes, including a significant spending spree on new players during the last summer transfer window.
Stan and Josh Kroenke will remain as co-chairs, while Richard Garlick, who joined the club in 2021 as director of football operations, will assume the role of chief executive.
Garlick is widely respected in the football world for his composed and professional approach, having previously worked at West Brom and as the Premier League's director of football during the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The club also confirmed the appointment of KSE's Kelly Blaha and Otto Maly as non-executive directors, alongside producer and passionate long-time supporter Ben Winston.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's manager, expressed his sadness over Lewis's departure but also conveyed his confidence in the club's new leadership and the owners' vision for the future, stating that 'big things are ahead.' The timing of Lewis's exit has surprised many, particularly given his recent successes and his influential voice in Premier League politics.
Arteta also provided a brief update on the team, confirming that captain Martin Odegaard has not trained due to a shoulder injury but may still be available for the upcoming match against Manchester City.
