Jannik Sinner powers into semi-final after ominous display against Struff

Jannik Sinner advanced to the semi-finals at Wimbledon with a commanding 7-5 7-6(4) 6-3 victory over Jan-Lennard Struff, extending his run of straight-sets victories to four consecutive matches. The world number one's display was marked by clinical efficiency rather than drama, though the German pushed the Italian harder than the scoreline suggests.
Sinner's performance was built on dominance in short rallies. Almost 80 percent of points were finished in four shots or fewer, with Sinner winning 91-72 in that category—a 56 percent success rate. The Italian broke through in the eleventh game of the opening set, then navigated a testing second set in which he had to save a set point at 4-5 before taking the tiebreak 7-4.
The third set followed a familiar pattern, with Sinner breaking at 4-3 with "a big forehand winner doing the business" before serving out to complete victory in just over two and a half hours. "It felt like I was serving quite intelligently today," Sinner reflected. "Also how I handled important moments in that match because if you lose the second set everything can happen again. Especially with big servers you have less control."
Struff, appearing in his first Grand Slam quarter-final after winning three five-set matches to reach this stage, served impressively early but could not sustain the intensity required against the top seed. Sinner acknowledged his opponent's quality, saying he "was a very very tough player to play against," though he admitted struggling initially. "In the beginning I felt like he started better than me I was struggling a bit," Sinner said. "I tried to get into the match I was serving a bit better tried to stay there mentally."
The victory proved a significant personal test for Sinner, coming just over five weeks after his physical collapse at Roland Garros. When asked about heat concerns given the blazing conditions on Court No. 1, he responded positively. "It felt OK," Sinner said. "It was warm but nothing crazy." He will face either Novak Djokovic or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-finals.
