Lorent Tolaj has completed his transfer from Plymouth Argyle to Championship side Bristol City on a four-year contract. The 24-year-old Swiss striker has signed a deal worth in excess of 4 million pounds plus add-ons, with the official announcement coming from both clubs at 9pm on transfer deadline day.

Tolaj joined Argyle just under a year ago when they activated a 1.2 million release clause in his contract at Port Vale. During the 2025-26 season, he proved to be a revelation at Home Park, finishing as the club's top scorer with 21 goals in all competitions. He will wear Bristol City's number nine shirt.

The transfer represents significant profit for Plymouth Argyle, quadrupling their initial investment. Derek Adams, Argyle's Director of Football, said: "We wish Lorent all the best for his move to Bristol City. We have sold him for significantly more money than we paid for him and while you never want to lose players of his quality this represents excellent business for the football club in a short space of time and epitomises our player trading model."

Tolaj becomes Bristol City's seventh new signing under newly-appointed manager Michael Skubala. The manager expressed his satisfaction, stating: "We are really pleased to add Lorent's physicality and intensity to our front line. His progression over the past few seasons is testament to both his talent and work ethic. He will add a different dimension to our squad."

Sporting director James Ellis added: "We know this is an area we needed to strengthen with quality and depth. We are really pleased that we have managed to bring a player to support the growth of our group and who has the mentality and hunger to be the best version he can be."

Tolaj said of the move: "I am really happy to be here. It is a great club with a great fanbase and I spoke with the manager about the plan. I am ambitious and this club is ambitious so that's why I wanted to come here."

The striker had been linked with multiple clubs including Scottish sides Celtic and Rangers during the summer window.
