Mary’s Meals, a charity founded in 2002 by Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow in a Dalmally shed, has reached a milestone of feeding three million children daily in 16 poverty-stricken countries, including South Sudan and Syria.
Starting with 200 children in Malawi, the charity scaled up from 2.2 million in 2024, driven by donations as low as 10p per meal.
MacFarlane-Barrow credits global goodwill for the growth, noting that meals encourage school attendance and education, breaking poverty cycles.
Despite this achievement, he highlighted the urgent need to reach 71 million out-of-school children, with thousands dying daily from hunger-related causes.
Initiatives like a Kilimanjaro climb by Lochlan McCole and a 30-mile tricycle ride by 87-year-old Ellison Hudson support the cause.
