Bafta-winning actor Micheal Ward has appeared in court on serious charges of rape and sexual assault and has been granted conditional bail.
The 27-year-old actor, known for his roles in the cult hit 'Blue Story' and the Netflix series 'Top Boy,' attended a preliminary hearing at Thames Magistrates' Court in London on Thursday.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the alleged offenses relate to one woman and are reported to have taken place in January 2023.
Ward is facing two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
He has not yet entered a formal plea but has previously stated that he 'denies the charges entirely'.
In a statement issued after he was charged in July, Ward said he had 'co-operated with police fully throughout their investigation' and had 'full faith it would lead to his name being cleared'.
The actor, who arrived at the court wearing dark glasses and a black jacket, spoke only to confirm his name, address, and date of birth.
His case has been sent to Snaresbrook Crown Court for a further hearing scheduled for September 25.
Ward's career highlights include winning the Rising Star prize at the Bafta Film Awards in 2020 for his role in 'Blue Story' and receiving a nomination for best supporting actor at the Bafta TV Awards in 2021 for 'Small Axe'.
He also starred in the 2022 drama 'Empire of Light' and the US pandemic-era Western 'Eddington,' which was recently released in the UK.
