Netflix has added 'Thanksgiving,' a modern slasher horror film directed and written by renowned horror filmmaker Eli Roth, to its streaming catalogue starting September 1, 2025.
The film stars Patrick Dempsey, known for his roles in 'Grey’s Anatomy,' 'Enchanted,' and 'Bridget Jones’s Baby.' 'Thanksgiving' began as a mock film trailer featured in the Grindhouse double bill alongside Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s projects and was developed by Roth into a full-length feature that pays homage to classic 1990s slasher films.
Set in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the story follows a sinister masked killer terrorizing the town’s inhabitants a year after a disastrous Black Friday event.
The film has received critical acclaim, boasting an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Roth's highest-rated movie to date.
Critics have praised its wit, inventive kills, sharp storytelling, and how it adheres to fans’ desires for the slasher genre, likening it to cult classics like 'Halloween' and 'Scream.' Audiences have also lauded the film for its blend of horror and dark humor, with many calling it a new holiday horror classic.
The timing of the release aligns perfectly with viewers eager to begin the fall horror season, promising a thrilling and gruesome cinematic experience for fans of the genre.
