Racing legend Frankie Dettori has been taken to hospital following a serious car crash in Newmarket, Suffolk. The 55-year-old retired Italian jockey was involved in a road traffic accident on the evening of Wednesday 1st July when another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of his car, causing it to spin and flip over on the road.

Emergency services attended the scene promptly and Dettori was subsequently transported to hospital. He was found to have sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb, with his injuries still being assessed as he remains in hospital for further scans and observation.

His management company H Talent Management released a statement confirming the incident.
