The Clean Air Living Matters (CALM) program, supported by Reading Borough Council, Stantec, and Design Nature, reached over 9,000 schoolchildren in Reading through interactive workshops on air quality.
Over two years, nearly 30 schools participated, with students conducting indoor and outdoor air quality checks using provided monitors.
The initiative, backed by the University of Reading, aimed to raise awareness about pollution’s causes, impacts, and solutions, particularly for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.
Councillor John Ennis emphasized its priority, while scientist Marta O’Brien noted its positive impact on families.
The program’s success has spurred hopes for similar initiatives elsewhere, fostering community-driven efforts for cleaner air.
