The Clean Air Living Matters (CALM) program, backed by Reading Borough Council, Stantec, and Design Nature, has educated over 9,000 students across 30 schools on air pollution.
Over two years, workshops and air quality monitors engaged pupils in understanding pollution’s impacts, particularly on children and the elderly.
Supported by the University of Reading, the initiative, praised by Councillor John Ennis and scientist Marta O’Brien, fosters community action.
Students’ hands-on air quality checks have driven awareness, with the program’s success prompting calls for expansion to other regions, reinforcing Reading’s commitment to sustainable living.
