Richard Osman's meteoric rise from TV presenter to bestselling author has not been without its controversies, sparking a series of minor celebrity feuds and rivalries.
The most vocal critic has been fellow crime writer Lynda La Plante, who launched a scathing attack on Osman, even pretending to vomit at the mention of his name.
The 'Prime Suspect' creator accused Osman of having an unfair advantage because his constant TV appearances cause his books to 'shoot to number one,' stating, 'You can't watch any program on television without him looming in it and I immediately turn it off.' His former 'Pointless' co-host Alexander Armstrong also described a friendly rivalry, noting their new books were released on the same day, though he also called Osman a 'guiding light.' Osman himself has voiced his own grievances, including a long-running 'beef' with the producers of 'Taskmaster' over the scoring system in an episode featuring comedian Jon Richardson.
He has also been critical of Ant and Dec's failed game show 'Red or Black,' calling it a 'car crash' and arguing that networks mistakenly thought its lesson was that 'people are happy to watch people being lucky.' In an awkward encounter, 'Death in Paradise' creator Robert Thorogood apologized to Osman for the similarities between Osman's 'Thursday Murder Club' and Thorogood's 'Marlow Murder Club,' fearing it looked like he had copied the concept.
Osman has also slammed the BAFTAs for being 'snobbish' towards daytime television, arguing that shows like his 'House of Games' punch above their weight but are ignored during awards season.
