Planned strike action at Bournemouth Airport, which threatened significant disruption to flights and travel schedules, has been called off at the last minute following successful negotiations between the employer and the Unite union.
A series of walkouts was scheduled to commence on Tuesday, but Unite’s regional officer, Janet Wall, confirmed that the action was suspended after the airport’s management presented an improved pay and conditions offer.
Wall noted that while the strike action would have 'caused a lot of disruption to flights,' the outcome achieved was a positive resolution.
The suspension avoids what could have been a chaotic period for both the airport and travelling public, particularly during a busy season.
The resolution underscores the effectiveness of union action in compelling employers to return to the negotiating table with better terms.
Although the specifics of the improved offer have not been fully detailed, the acceptance by Unite signals that it met the demands and concerns of the airport staff involved.
The agreement allows the airport to maintain normal operations, averting the cancellation of flights and the inevitable travel headaches for passengers, ensuring continuity for one of the South of England's key regional transport hubs.
