Elias Morgan, a convicted criminal with a history of armed robbery, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 45 years for the cold-blooded murder of former prison officer Lenny Scott.
The killing was motivated by revenge after Scott discovered Morgan's illicit possession of a mobile phone and exposed a sexual relationship between Morgan and a female prison officer inside HMP Altcourse.
Morgan initially attempted to bribe Scott with £1,500 to keep quiet, but following Scott's refusal and reporting, Morgan threatened him and his family, vowing retaliation.
Nearly four years later, after serving his sentence, Morgan stalked Scott and fatally shot him multiple times near a gym in Skelmersdale.
The murder has deeply impacted Scott's family, who describe him as a devoted father and honorable man.
The court heard that Morgan's co-accused was acquitted.
This case underscores the dangers faced by prison staff and the severe consequences when threats and violence escalate outside prison walls.
