Lauren Rice, partner of England midfielder Declan Rice, came close to missing the World Cup after enduring horrific trolling. The decision to attend was far from straightforward, with Lauren considering staying at home and watching England's matches on television rather than travelling to the competition.

According to sources, Lauren was so scarred by the horrid and disgusting slurs she was subjected to that it was described as a miracle she made it to Boston. Friends noted that while she loves watching Declan and is a supportive partner, the abuse devastated her. A source said: "She didn't want to be seen she didn't want to be recognised and there was a time when she just wanted to be at home and watch it on the television. But then the trolls would win wouldn't they."

The trolling began in late 2023, with anonymous users targeting Lauren's appearance and making offensive comments about her relationship with the Arsenal midfielder. The campaign prompted her to delete both her Instagram and X accounts, removing photos from social media.

Despite the continued impact, Lauren made the difficult decision to join Declan at the World Cup. Friends emphasised how challenging the situation has been for both, noting that he adores his partner and does everything he can to protect her.

Declan and Lauren, both 27, have been together since they met as teenagers at school in south-west London. The couple share son Jude, who was born in 2022. Despite Declan's rise to become one of England's biggest football stars, Lauren has largely kept a low profile. She was among the families supporting Thomas Tuchel's squad during the World Cup campaign.
