Deon Moore: Torquay United striker signs new deal

Torquay United have secured the future of striker Deon Moore after the 27-year-old Guyana international signed a two-year contract with the National League South club. Moore made an immediate impact during a short-term spell at the end of last season, scoring eight goals in just ten games.
The striker was brought to the club by manager Jimmy Ball, who recruited Moore from Maidstone United as his first signing. His goals proved crucial as Torquay mounted a serious promotion push, with the player starring in the play-offs. Moore scored two goals in the club's 4-2 play-off semi-final win over Dorking Wanderers before scoring two more as the Gulls lost 3-2 in the final at Hornchurch.
There had been considerable uncertainty over the summer regarding whether Moore would return to Torquay, with reports suggesting other clubs higher up the pyramid were interested in securing his services. However, the will-he-won't-he question has now been resolved following the announcement of his signing on Wednesday night.
Ball expressed his delight at finally securing Moore's future. "Deon made a massive impact for us last season," the manager told the club website. "He gave us power, presence, goals and big moments in big games. We wanted him back, the fans wanted him back and I'm delighted we've got it done."
The manager added: "He scored goals before he came to us and then he came in here and delivered in the biggest moments at the end of the season. That tells you a lot about his character and his quality. He knows what this club is about now, he knows what we're building and he'll be an important part of the group."
With Moore now on board, Torquay have assembled a strong striking force alongside Louis Dennis, Sonny Fish, Cody Cooke, Callum Morton and Isaac Westendorf. The club now has 23 players in their squad as they prepare for their first pre-season friendly at Buckland Athletic on Saturday.
