Erling Haaland has launched a passionate defence of former team-mate Jude Bellingham after his Norway side were eliminated in the World Cup quarter-final clash in Miami on Saturday evening. Bellingham scored twice to turn the game on its head and send England through to the semi-finals, with the match going to extra-time.

Speaking to the media after the match, Haaland praised his close friend and former Borussia Dortmund colleague, defending him against widespread criticism. "Jude is a good friend We had two good years together in Dortmund we keep in touch and he's such a good guy We had so much fun together," Haaland said. "I m not surprised that he scored two goals and performs the way he does."

The striker went on to address the scrutiny surrounding Bellingham's performance. "The only thing is that sometimes he gets a bit too much criticism because he doesn't score enough goals or whatever. He doesn't deserve that because he's one of the best in the world and he's a midfielder who still scores goals and he still managed to dribble past every single player on the field."

The passionate support comes as welcome reassurance for Bellingham, whose squad inclusion had been questioned in the months preceding the tournament. With six goals to his name after six games, the midfielder has more than justified his selection. "So it's just praise for Jude He's unbelievable England and Real Madrid are lucky because everybody would want a Jude in their team," Haaland concluded.

Bellingham himself responded robustly to criticism from England manager Thomas Tuchel following the match. When questioned about Tuchel's remarks, Bellingham replied: "Yeah well whatever Whatever. It's difficult out there It's a tough shift All the players have put in a very tough shift My thoughts and appreciation goes to the players who have put in a tough shift once again."

Meanwhile, Haaland indicated he is now rooting for England to win the World Cup, citing Manchester City teammates in the squad.
