Martin Frizell, the husband of former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips, has made a heartbreakingly frank admission about the devastating impact of her early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
Fiona, 64, was diagnosed three years ago at the age of 61.
Her husband, a former executive on 'This Morning,' appeared on BBC's Newsnight earlier this year and outlined a tragically bleak future for his wife.
He confessed that he doesn't believe Fiona will ever be able to taste a glass of wine again, walk on a beach properly, go on holiday, visit the theatre or cinema, drive her car, or cook a meal for her children.
His deepest worry, he shared, is that 'on her deathbed, whenever that may come,' she will be robbed of these fundamental life experiences, noting grimly that 'there's no remission for Alzheimer's.' More recently, Frizell shared a more positive note on social media, revealing that a memoir charting Fiona's health battle had reached the number one spot on the Sunday Times Bestsellers list for the fifth consecutive week.
He shared that this achievement had 'really lifted her mood' and included a thank you from Fiona to everyone who had shown interest in her story.
Frizell also thanked the many people who had been in touch with their own stories, suggestions for new treatments, and memories of Fiona from her working days, attaching a favourite photo of her from a TV location shoot that showed her as a 'force of life and vitality.'
