Baroness Michelle Mone, appointed a peer by David Cameron in 2015, has declared she has no intention of returning to the House of Lords as a Conservative peer following a scandal involving PPE Medpro, a firm linked to her husband Doug Barrowman.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch called for Mone’s peerage to be stripped after a High Court ruling found PPE Medpro breached a Covid contract by supplying unusable medical gowns, stored since 2020.
In a letter to Badenoch, Mone disputed claims about losing the Tory whip, asserting she took a leave of absence herself, and sarcastically questioned the party’s future.
The Conservatives confirmed Mone would not be welcomed back, emphasizing integrity under Badenoch’s leadership.
Mone described the ruling as an establishment win, while Barrowman called it a travesty.
Removing a peerage requires an act of Parliament, a complex process.
The controversy, involving £25m in gowns, continues to draw scrutiny, with Badenoch and others like Rachel Reeves advocating accountability.
