The Netherlands' Supreme Court has delivered a significant ruling by overturning a lower court's decision and ordering the Dutch government to review its policy on exporting F-35 jet parts to Israel.
This means the export of these components remains suspended for six weeks while the government conducts its review.
The court stated that the government must decide for itself whether there is a risk that the jet parts would be used in violation of international law, upholding a previous Court of Appeal ruling in The Hague which stated that the Netherlands could no longer supply the components because they would constitute 'serious violations of international humanitarian law.' The ruling comes amidst mounting international scrutiny of military aid and its use in the ongoing conflict.
Separately, the situation for mothers and newborn babies in Gaza has been described as 'never been worse' by a Unicef spokesperson on Friday.
The UN children's agency reported that Nasser hospital in the south of the enclave is overwhelmed with patients fleeing from the north, and medical resources are rapidly running out.
A Unicef spokesperson denounced the designated safe zones in the south of Gaza as 'places of death,' pointing out that bombs continue to fall nearby, deeming the notion of a safe zone 'farcical' given the desperate circumstances faced by the region’s most vulnerable populations.
