Following an intensive manhunt, federal law enforcement officials announced the arrest of Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the assassination of Republican activist Charlie Kirk.
According to authorities, Robinson's family and a family friend told investigators that he had confessed to killing Kirk.
President Donald Trump confirmed the capture, stating during a Fox News interview that an individual close to Robinson had turned him in to authorities.
Robinson, who became more politically active in recent years, reportedly told family members that Kirk was 'full of hate' and 'spreading hate.' The fatal incident occurred after Robinson acquired a firearm and shot Kirk while he was hosting an event for his organization, Turning Point USA, at Utah Valley University.
Footage from the scene showed a large crowd of young conservatives ducking for cover after a single gunshot was heard.
Kirk was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In a somber announcement, Trump stated that Kirk would posthumously receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.
The tragic event marks the latest in a series of political violence incidents that have heightened tensions and raised concerns among lawmakers about their personal safety.
Vice President J.D.
Vance transported Kirk's coffin to his home in Arizona on Air Force Two.
The Republican activist, a prominent figure in conservative youth outreach, had dedicated his life to advocating for right-wing policies and engaging in political debate.
The event he was hosting was met with divided opinions, and an online petition had circulated to bar him from appearing on campus.
