The comedy world is in mourning following the death of entertainer Reginald 'Reggie' Carroll, who was shot in Southaven, Mississippi, on August 20th and succumbed to his injuries in a Memphis hospital.
The Baltimore-based comedian was 52 years old.
Southaven police officers responded to a shooting on Burton Lane and found Carroll critically wounded.
Despite emergency treatment, he could not be saved.
Police have arrested and charged 38-year-old Tranell Marquise Williams with one count of murder in connection with the killing, describing the incident as isolated.
Investigators have not publicly discussed a possible motive.
Reports from local Memphis news station Fox13 indicate a potential connection to a Burton Lane-based company that billed itself as the official site for merchandise of comedian Micah 'Katt' Williams, with whom Carroll had recently been on tour.
The company was reportedly evicted from its rented address following the shooting, with a lease violation letter citing criminal activity and an arrest.
Tributes poured in from across the comedy circuit.
Baltimore's Mobtown Comedy collective thanked Carroll for being 'one of the OGs who supported us early on.' Oscar-winning actress Mo'Nique, who had previously toured with Carroll, paid a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, remembering their time together as 'amazing' and choosing not to have 'sad tears' because all their times together were positive.
Carroll's credits include an episode of the Mo'Nique-starring sitcom 'The Parkers,' 'Showtime at the Apollo,' and the 2023 standup special 'Knockout Kings of Comedy.'
