Emma Heming Willis, the wife of legendary actor Bruce Willis, has publicly defended her heart-wrenching decision to live separately from her husband as he battles frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
The 47-year-old model and entrepreneur revealed in a recent ABC special that the 70-year-old 'Die Hard' star no longer lives in their main family home but resides in a nearby house equipped with a full-time care team.
She described it as one of the hardest decisions she has ever had to make but explained that it was necessary for the well-being of their two young daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.
Emma realized that the noise and disruption of everyday family life could agitate Bruce, which meant the girls were unable to have friends over for playdates and constantly had to monitor their volume.
She stated that Bruce would have wanted a home tailored to their daughters' needs, not his own.
Now, when the family visits, they focus on connection, often spending time outside or watching movies together in a calm environment.
Following the documentary, Emma faced criticism online from people questioning the separation.
In an emotional video on Instagram, she hit back, stating that caregivers are often unfairly judged by those without experience.
She emphasized that only those living with the condition and within the specific family dynamics truly understand the necessary care decisions, adding that loud opinions from outsiders 'don't get a say and they definitely don't get a vote.'
