SOS Wholesale, a prominent discount wholesale business with a significant presence in the UK and Ireland, has entered administration, leading to the redundancy of approximately 100 employees.
The company, founded in 1996 by Mark Beckett, was sold to the RDCP Group in 2022 and had grown to become one of the largest wholesalers in the country.
It supplied a wide range of goods, including groceries, soft drinks, and toiletries, to various retailers.
According to Rick Harrison from Interpath, the joint administrators, the retail sector is facing numerous challenges that are impacting the entire supply chain.
SOS Wholesale was unable to overcome these challenges, including rising input costs and changing consumer spending habits, which put pressure on its cash flow and profitability.
The business was no longer in a position to continue trading, leading to the difficult decision to cease operations and make the majority of its staff redundant.
The administrators are now exploring options for a possible sale of the business and its assets, while also providing support to the affected employees in making claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.
A small number of staff have been retained to assist with this process.
The business had been recognized in various awards in previous years.
