Murder investigation launched after man found dead in caravan in Loughborough lay-by

A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man's body in a caravan in Loughborough. Police confirmed they had begun the investigation following a report of a sudden death in a caravan in Derby Road, Loughborough. The death was first reported to officers on Monday July 6 at approximately 11.40pm. East Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene where the victim, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the location.

The man is understood to have been involved in an altercation in the days prior to his death. A 56-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. The arrested man remains in police custody as officers carry out forensic examinations in the surrounding area.

Enquiries are in their early stages to establish what happened and what led to the man's death. Police issued a statement on Wednesday July 8 confirming that investigations remain at an early stage as detectives work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the death.

Detective Inspector Mike Chandler from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) is leading the investigation. He said: "I've got a dedicated team of officers working to understand what's happened in this altercation and the events that led to the death of this man."

He added: "Officers will be in the area of Derby Road over the coming days carrying out enquiries and forensic investigations. A cordon will remain in place while these enquiries are carried out."
