Missing child, 5, found dead in water in 'incredibly tragic incident', police confirm

A missing five-year-old child has tragically been discovered dead in water in Worcestershire. West Mercia Police had been urgently investigating the disappearance of the youngster who went missing from Badsey near Evesham on Wednesday July 29. The force confirmed that a body was found unresponsive in water within the Badsey area and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers believe the incredibly tragic incident was the result of drowning. Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for a coroner to open an inquest. Out of respect for the devastated family, the sex of the child has not been disclosed.

A police spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: "Officers were called to a report of a missing child in Badsey yesterday evening Wednesday 29 July. Sadly the child was found unresponsive in a body of water and a short time later was pronounced dead. There is no third-party involvement in the child's death and a report will be prepared for the coroner. This is an incredibly tragic incident."

The spokeswoman added: "We ask the public to avoid speculation online as this is incredibly distressing to the family and we ask that their privacy is respected at such a difficult time."

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the area at 6.50pm and dispatched an ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car. A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "On arrival we discovered one patient a young child. Ambulance staff and police worked quickly to treat the patient but sadly it became apparent nothing could be done to save them and they were confirmed dead at the scene."
