Two Cambridgeshire police officers are facing gross misconduct hearings into the handling of an assault believed to be linked to the train attack. The Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) has concluded an investigation of alleged failures by police to investigate a report of assault of a man in Fletton on September 27, 2025.

The IOPC has concluded that two police constables will face gross misconduct hearings. Emily Barry, IOPC director of engagement, said: "While we have found the officers will face disciplinary proceedings it will be for the force to organise the hearing and its misconduct panel to determine whether based on the evidence the allegations of gross misconduct are proven. The parties involved have been notified of our decision."

One officer is alleged to have failed to conduct appropriate inquiries into the assault incident. Both officers are alleged to have concealed this failure by recording inaccurate information in the crime report, specifically indicating that there was no CCTV footage available.

Cambridgeshire Police referred itself to the IOPC on November 10, 2025. This self-referral followed a review conducted by the police force. During this review, the force identified potential prior police contact with the suspect of the Huntingdon train attack on November 1, 2025.

The IOPC investigation examined the police response to the assault report and determined that both officers should face misconduct proceedings. The investigation identified inadequate investigation of the initial assault report and the provision of inaccurate information in police records.

The misconduct hearings will now be organised by Cambridgeshire Police. A misconduct panel will consider the evidence and determine whether the allegations of gross misconduct against the two officers are proven.
