Cameron Ross, a former Police Scotland officer, has been sentenced to ten years in prison at the High Court in Edinburgh for rape, domestic abuse, and attempting to pervert the course of justice. The 39-year-old was found guilty following a trial in May and received his sentence on Thursday, July 2.

The court heard evidence of a pattern of sexual and physical abuse against women spanning a decade. Ross raped a first woman after they met at a party on the Isle of Lewis between August and October 2012. A second woman told the court how Ross sat on her and restrained her before raping her in June 2014. He then subjected a third woman to a campaign of domestic abuse between October 2019 and June 2022 in Inverness. All offences occurred at locations in Inverness and on the Isle of Lewis between 2012 and 2022.

Beyond the rape and domestic abuse convictions, Ross was also found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice and threatening or abusive behaviour. He has been placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Faye Cook, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences at the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, stated: "Cameron Ross carried out deliberate and repeated acts of abuse against women over the course of a decade. This was sustained offending which caused significant harm. As a police officer he was in a position of trust. Instead of upholding the law he chose to break it in a serious and persistent way."

Chief Superintendent Helen Harrison said: "Ross actions go against everything Police Scotland stands for. Our thoughts are with the victims in this case and I hope this conviction provides them with some measure of closure. I commend their strength in reporting these crimes and bringing this individual to justice. We understand how difficult it can be to report these kinds of offences particularly when the perpetrator is a police officer. All officers are bound by our Standards of Professional Behaviour which apply on and off duty."
