Roadworks to begin on busy Cambridgeshire city roundabout for major train station project

Roadworks are due to begin on a major city centre roundabout as construction progresses on a new train station project aimed at improving connectivity for Cambridgeshire. The development will provide a double-sided railway station for the city, representing a significant infrastructure investment for the region.
The first stage of construction is set to commence on Monday July 6. To facilitate the installation of necessary traffic management infrastructure, there will be a full closure of the Queensgate roundabout from 7pm on Sunday July 5 until Monday July 6. Lanes will remain closed from Monday onwards as construction work proceeds on the site.
Pedestrian diversions will be put in place from July 6. The public has been advised to allow extra time for their journeys through the affected area. Members of the public have also been encouraged to plan ahead during the roadworks period.
The Queensgate roundabout is a busy junction in the city centre, and its closure during the initial phases of construction is expected to impact traffic flow in the area. However, the temporary restrictions are necessary to enable the project to proceed safely and efficiently.
The closure of the roundabout beginning on the evening of Sunday July 5 will give workers time to establish proper traffic management systems before the main construction phase begins. This phased approach aims to minimise disruption while allowing essential work to progress on the new station development. The project's focus on providing improved connectivity suggests broader transportation benefits for commuters and residents in the region.
