Newcastle news: Fan views on World Cup transfer targets

Newcastle fans have shared their views on potential World Cup transfer targets, with proposals ranging from shrewd signings to ambitious moves.
Supporters suggested several options. One mentioned Frederick Elijah from the New Zealand team, with the Motherwell player quoted at 4.5 million and Celtic and Rangers interested, though proposing Newcastle make a 6 million bid instead. Jimmy Nmecha from the German side was backed as "the standout performer in the German side and could slot in perfectly to our midfield," despite acknowledging the challenge of prising him away from Dortmund.
However, not all supporters endorsed pursuing World Cup standouts. One fan expressed caution, stating: "I don't think we should sign any of the players who excelled at the World Cup. If we do their price tags will soar and all the big six clubs will be looking at them too." Instead, he advocated for finding players "off the radar" so Newcastle could "spend a fair price and not have them stolen by teams with more money."
Russell proposed Summerville as a shrewd signing at 24 years old: "I think Summerville would be a really shrewd signing for Newcastle. He's a goal scoring winger to replace Gordon in great form and has just been relegated so there's a realistic chance of getting him."
Other candidates mentioned included Verbruggen as goalkeeper, Sweden's Ayari, Trossard to replace Gordon, Yeremy Pino, and Folarin Balogun as a potential number nine.
Newcastle's existing signings showed promise at the World Cup. Anthony Elanga scored for Sweden, including four minutes after coming on as substitute against the Netherlands when Sweden were 4-0 down. Yoane Wissa also impressed.
However, Newcastle faces challenges retaining talent. John Barnes highlighted a persistent issue: "Except for Liverpool and Manchester United it's always been the same for years and years and years - players playing anywhere north of Birmingham want to move to London." Sander Tonali's recent departure to Spurs exemplifies this trend. Tonali explained: "We come from Newcastle and our lives change with our child's birth. So we decided to change a bit."
