Oliver Glasner has become Nottingham Forest's fifth head coach in less than a year, with the 51-year-old Austrian agreeing a three-year deal at the City Ground.

The former Crystal Palace boss replaces Vitor Pereira, who was dismissed last week after just four months in charge. Forest triggered a clause in Pereira's contract two minutes before it was due to expire in June. The Portuguese manager had steered the club away from relegation trouble but his tenure proved brief.

Glasner's appointment carries considerable intrigue. Previously linked with Manchester United and AC Milan, securing the free agent proved quite the coup for Forest. Social media quickly lit up with celebrations, particularly given recent needle between the clubs and Crystal Palace over European competition.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis made clear his ambitions. "In our discussions with Oliver it was clear that we share the same vision, the same ambition and the same relentless desire to succeed," Marinakis said. "Oliver is a winner. He has earned success through his leadership, his personality and the style of football his teams play."

Glasner arrives following the most successful period in Crystal Palace's history. He won the Europa Conference League title last season following their FA Cup success in 2025 and claimed the Community Shield in August. His managerial credentials are extensive: he previously managed LASK, Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt, winning the Europa League in 2022.

The appointment represents a significant statement of intent. Forest finished sixteenth in the Premier League last season, five points above the relegation zone, and reached the Europa League semi-finals. The club has not won a major trophy since 1990, and Marinakis clearly believes Glasner is the man to change that.
