Barcelona's metro authority, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), has announced that it will open two of its long-disused 'ghost' stations to the public for the first time.
As part of its centenary celebrations, the unused Gaudi and Correos stations will be open for free guided tours in September, October, and November.
Gaudi station, built in 1968, was never put into service, and its platform will now host tours detailing the transport network's 100-year history.
Correos station was operational from 1934 to 1972 and will be accessed by walking along the tracks when the metro is not running, as it lacks a street-level entrance.
TMB is offering 5,033 free tickets for these visits and other heritage sites within the system, including the old Urquinaona spiral staircase and the Santa Eulalia workshop, which opened in 1922.
Visitors can also experience a metro train driver's job at the control center's driving simulator room.
TMB CEO Xavier Flores stated that the company wants to open the 'most emblematic spaces' of the network to both its professionals and the public.
The first visits began on September 13, with the ghost stations available on specific days in October and November.
The initiative aims to celebrate the history of the city's transport system by providing a unique look into its hidden past.
