Tens of thousands of Brazilians have taken to the streets in protest, demanding that no amnesty be granted to former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Bolsonaro was recently convicted of illegally attempting to remain in power after losing the 2022 presidential election.
The pro-democracy protests, held in major cities like Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, were spearheaded by popular musicians who were also prominent figures in the fight against the country's 1964-85 military dictatorship.
The crowds chanted 'Sem anistia' (No amnesty) while artists performed dictatorship-era classics.
Protesters also voiced anger over new draft legislation, dubbed the 'Bandit's Bill,' which would make it more difficult for lawmakers to be charged with crimes.
The rallies are the largest pro-democracy demonstrations in Brazil in years and have also spread to cities overseas, including London and Berlin.
The movement rejects the idea that an amnesty would reduce political tensions, with one musician, Chico Buarque, stating, 'It was the putschists who committed the crime.
We democrats owe them nothing'.
