Prince William, 43, has confirmed that significant change is firmly on his agenda when he becomes King, as he aims to reshape the monarchy for his generation.
The Prince revealed his forward-thinking approach during an appearance on the new episode of 'The Reluctant Traveler,' where he gave Canadian actor Eugene Levy, 78, a tour of Windsor Castle before they shared a pint at a local pub.
William told Levy, 'I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda.
Change for good, and I embrace that and I enjoy that change.
I don’t fear it; that’s the bit that excites me - the idea of being able to bring some change.
Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen.' Sources suggest these changes could include making Windsor Castle his permanent base, a major shift from the long tradition of monarchs residing primarily in London and Buckingham Palace.
He is also expected to formalise a 'small r' royalty approach, making the monarchy less formal and more relatable to reflect his generation's values, aiming for 'impact, philanthropy, collaboration, convening and helping people,' along with a dose of 'empathy.' Furthermore, he is likely to reduce the number of causes the Royal Family supports to focus intensely on key passion areas like homelessness, the environment, and mental health.
This new approach will likely see him be a more outspoken monarch on social issues than his father and late grandmother, as he wishes to create 'a world in which my son is proud of what we do.' While he intends to maintain the 'slimmed-down monarchy' enforced by King Charles, he may utilise non-working royal cousins, such as Zara Tindall, for support at select events like garden parties, blending tradition with modern necessity.
