A man has appeared in court to deny a serious charge related to the death of a woman in Bradford earlier this year.
Kiel Sanderson, 39, of Calderstone Avenue, Bradford, pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice.
The charge alleges that Mr.
Sanderson set a car on fire with the intention of destroying evidence following a collision that resulted in the death of 48-year-old Donna Smith.
Ms.
Smith was hit by a car on Hillcrest Drive, Queensbury, on 29 August and tragically died in hospital two days later from her injuries.
The court heard that Mr.
Sanderson was initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm but is now facing the charge of destroying evidence, a significant criminal offence that carries a severe custodial sentence upon conviction.
Mr.
Sanderson appeared at Bradford Crown Court via video link to enter his not-guilty plea.
The legal proceedings are now set to continue, with the next court hearing scheduled for 26 November, and a provisional trial date has been set for 16 February of next year.
The focus of the trial will centre on the circumstances surrounding the collision, the nature of the evidence that was allegedly destroyed, and whether Mr.
Sanderson deliberately intended to obstruct the police investigation into Ms.
Smith’s death.
