The father of Manchester terrorist Jihad Al-Shamie has posted shocking comments on social media, praising the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, as carried out by 'men of God' on Earth.
Faraj Al-Shamie, whose son carried out an attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester, on Thursday, posted in Arabic on Facebook referencing a militant group that claimed part in the attacks which killed some 1,200 people.
Faraj Al-Shamie also praised missile attacks on Israeli cities and declared that 'We are waiting for more,' advocating for a 'last battle with Israel' on a page bearing his name.
These incendiary posts stand in stark contrast to a statement issued on the same page by the broader Al-Shamie family in the UK and abroad, which 'strongly condemns this heinous act which targeted peaceful innocent civilians' and expressed 'deep shock and sorrow' over the attack, fully distancing themselves from Jihad Al-Shamie's actions.
The revelation of the father's extremist views highlights a complex and fractured family dynamic in the wake of the terror attack.
The October 7, 2023, attack led to the abduction of 251 people, with the subsequent violence in the region fueling radicalisation.
The father’s posts underscore the deep ideological divisions that permeate the current political and religious landscape, even within families.
