Ethan Galbraith to Stoke City transfer, his best position and reception he'll get from Swansea

Ethan Galbraith has joined Stoke City in an eye-catching start to their summer transfer window. The 25-year-old Northern Ireland midfielder completed the move after Stoke agreed an undisclosed fee with Swansea. He impressed at this level having come through Manchester United's ranks before starring over two years with Leyton Orient.
Regarding his best position, expert analysis suggests versatility. "I think he could probably play all three of those roles but I suppose he's best as playing as something of a deep-lying playmaker. Someone capable of pulling the strings from the base of midfield and gliding through the lines. His main strength is his confidence on the ball which is really impressive. Despite his small frame he protects possession really well. He can pick out a pass too and his excellent vision really elevates the attacking threat from midfield."
Comparisons have been drawn to Leon Britton. Galbraith also played at right-back, "which I think was out of necessity more than anything else but I think he actually enjoyed some of his best games. He's perhaps not the strongest defensively but his quality of delivery certainly made him a useful outlet out wide."
Swansea allowed his departure after he made clear he would not sign a new deal. However, "if Swansea had made him an offer more in line with what other important players at the club were earning I think there's every chance he would have stayed." The timing was notable, occurring on the final day of the financial year, with compliance with SCR rules possibly motivating the sale.
His reception is expected to be cool. "I suspect a rather frosty one as I think many Swans fans are a little dismayed he's gone to a Championship rival rather than someone a little higher up the foodchain. Had he gone to the Premier League for example I think the mood around his exit would have been very different."
