Coventry City are in talks with Sheffield United over a possible return for Gustavo Hamer. The 29-year-old departed the club after the play-off final defeat to Luton Town, signing a four-year deal with the Blades for around £15 million.

Hamer has had a strong run at Bramall Lane with 22 goals and 29 assists over the past three seasons. With just one year left on his contract, he is being linked with an emotional return to the Coventry Building Society Stadium.

According to Will Oelrich of BBC Sport, the Sky Blues have held positive talks with the Championship side and discussions remain ongoing. Interestingly, it is claimed that Sheffield United still owe Coventry money from the move that took him away from the club three years ago, and that could be vital in a reunion.

Hamer's return would be a huge moment in the Sky Blues' transfer business this summer. Frank Lampard's men have strengthened their centre-back options with Aurele Amenda, while Loum Tchaouna has arrived from Burnley. Frank Onyeka's loan move from Brentford has also been made permanent.

The club's activity in the transfer window has been significant elsewhere too. Coventry are close to re-signing goalkeeper Carl Rushworth after reaching an agreement with Brighton worth £22.5 million. The 25-year-old played an integral role for Lampard's side last season, keeping 17 clean sheets in 46 Championship appearances as Lampard's side defied the odds in the Championship.

It has been a summer of speculation regarding Coventry and their business in the transfer window, particularly in the goalkeeping department, as Lampard continues to reshape his squad.
