Rangers had their Premiership preparations dealt a blow when Thelo Aasgaard came off early in Sunday's goalless West Ham friendly with a shoulder injury, potentially leaving him as a doubt for Friday's opener at Dundee United.

Yet there was encouragement from new signing Cammy Devlin, who delivered another standout display. The midfielder quickly endeared himself to Rangers supporters following his Ibrox debut against St Etienne, and his West Ham performance suggests Derek McInnes' recruitment is already paying dividends.

Rangers produced a more complete showing than their midweek win over St Etienne. McInnes reflected: "They were solid and compact against a very good team - and could have won it in the second half." Lawrence Shankland and Aasgaard both missed chances to break the deadlock.

However, McInnes identified a persistent weakness in attacking creativity. "You're right to say we need those difference makers," he admitted. "I think a club like ours needs to have those guys that can isolate and go play one on one and who can play off both sides naturally. So we're looking for a wee bit more creativity that we think can serve the strikers."

McInnes expressed optimism about imminent reinforcements. "We are quite hopeful we've got one done at the minute and hopefully we'll have some news on that in the next 48 hours," he said, also targeting another signing before Friday.

New Serbian midfielder Vanja Dragojevic watched from the stands due to visa complications, while Belgian international Nico Raskin will be unavailable for the Dundee match following his World Cup break. McInnes has decided on a permanent captain but not yet announced it, with Dujon Sterling captaining Sunday's side. Mohamed Diomande has dismissed exit speculation, affirming his commitment to winning trophies at Ibrox under McInnes.
