Transfer target 'open' to Nottingham Forest move as second bid submitted

Nottingham Forest have submitted a second bid for Feyenoord full-back Givairo Read as they seek to strengthen their right-back options ahead of the 2026-27 campaign under new head coach Oliver Glasner.

The 20-year-old Netherlands Under-21 international has emerged as a priority target for the Reds. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Forest have put forward an improved proposal for the defender. While the Dutch side were initially seeking in the region of at least £21m, the revised package is understood to be worth between £20m and £17m.

Read is said to be open to a move to Nottingham Forest, with personal terms not representing an issue in negotiations. The player has also been on the radar of Manchester City and Bayern Munich, but Forest appear to be leading the chase for his signature.

The right-back signed fresh terms with Feyenoord last year, keeping him under contract until 2029. He spent time in the academies of Zeeburgia and FC Volendam before moving to the Eredivisie outfit in 2023. Since then, he has made 42 league appearances and possesses European experience in both the Champions League and Europa League.

Forest's pursuit of Read comes as they continue to reshape their squad under Glasner's management. The club have also recently secured free agent midfielder Xaver Schlager on a two-year deal, reuniting the Austrian with Glasner after the pair worked together at Wolfsburg. At 28 years old, Schlager will bring considerable experience to the Reds squad.

The club's transfer strategy remains focused on signing players with the potential to improve and increase in value, with Read falling squarely into that category. Right-back has been identified as an area requiring strengthening as Forest prepare for the upcoming campaign.
