Connor Barron has emerged as a transfer target for Bologna, with the Italian side maintaining their strong long-term interest in the Scotland international. The Rossoblu were keen on Barron when he left for Ibrox back in 2024, having previously asked him to hold off on a move. Bologna made an approach to Rangers last season which was rebuffed by former sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who gave a firm no when asked if the club would sell.

However, Bologna's interest in Barron could yet come into play over a potential deal for Lewis Ferguson. Rangers are keen to try and land Ferguson from Bologna, having made an enquiry despite knowing it would be a tricky deal. The midfielder also has strong interest from rivals Roma and Atalanta.

Rangers had a 3.8 million bid turned down last week but are continuing their pursuit. It remains to be seen if Rangers would have the finance to do the deal, although it could happen if players such as Nicolas Raskin were sold. New manager Derek McInnes was a fan of Barron when he came through the ranks at Aberdeen, and previously signed Ferguson from Hamilton, making him a key player at Pittodrie.

Ferguson has since turned into a key player for club and country. According to former Rangers and Aberdeen player Dominic Ball, landing Ferguson would be "a statement signing if they could make it happen." Ball noted that McInnes and Ferguson "have a strong relationship" from their time at Aberdeen, which could aid Rangers' cause.

Ball said: "He has played in the World Cup for Scotland. He is playing in one of the top leagues in the world and has done well there. If he could get Lewis it would be incredible." The 26-year-old has earned plenty of plaudits despite Scotland's World Cup struggles. Ball emphasized the importance of McInnes's winning mentality, stating: "You know what you get with him. He has that real determination to win."
