Bradley Barcola 'reaches verbal agreement' with Liverpool as blockbuster transfer advances

Bradley Barcola has reached a verbal agreement to join Liverpool after holding positive talks with Reds boss Andoni Iraola, marking significant progress in the blockbuster transfer pursuit. The 23-year-old French winger, currently at Paris Saint-Germain, is Liverpool's top priority as they seek a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who departed this summer.

Despite Barcola's willingness to move, a substantial gap remains between the two clubs' valuations. PSG are demanding around £140m to £145m for the player, a fee that would set a club record for Liverpool. The Reds are understood to be seeking a middle ground, with negotiations continuing between the clubs.

Since joining PSG in 2023 for approximately £38m, Barcola has proven his worth at the highest level, scoring 39 goals and providing 35 assists across 152 appearances whilst helping the French club win back-to-back titles. His versatility to operate on either flank adds to his appeal.

Iraola has been vocal about Liverpool's need to strengthen their attacking options. "When the market is open you have to be always open to new options to improve the squad," the Spanish manager explained. "There are obvious situations where we need to sign players. Winger for example we definitely need to sign a winger."

Competition for Barcola appears limited, with Arsenal prioritising other targets and Bayern Munich's interest seemingly ending after Luis Diaz recommitted to the Bundesliga club. Real Madrid's withdrawal from the race for RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, whom PSG had been pursuing, may have also affected negotiations.

PSG released a statement emphasizing their financial principles, declaring that "the asking transfer fee and salary demands were completely disproportionate and distortive" regarding other targets, suggesting they remain firm on their valuation for Barcola.

Liverpool currently prepare for their pre-season campaign in the United States, having defeated Sunderland 4-2 in their opening friendly, but resolving the Barcola situation remains crucial to their summer plans.
