Major disruption on two North Wales train lines amid repairs backlog

Rail passengers across North Wales are facing significant travel disruption as Transport for Wales battles a backlog of train repairs. The operator has warned that services could be cancelled for the remainder of the day on two key routes linking the region to Chester and the north.
According to TfW, the issues stem from more trains than normal needing repairs at the same time. Services may be cancelled in both directions between Wrexham General and Chester. "Due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time between Wrexham General WRX and Chester CTR services may be cancelled in both directions," the operator said in a statement. The disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.
TfW explained the underlying problem: "Due to a shortage of trains fewer trains are able to run between Wrexham General and Chester." The operator advised customers to use alternative services, stating "Where possible please use the next available service." The company also apologised, saying "We apologise for the disruption caused to your journey."
The second affected route runs between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog. Similarly, services may be cancelled in both directions on this line, with disruption also expected until the end of the day. "We have organised buses to run between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost," TfW said.
To help passengers complete their journeys, customers can use local bus services at no extra cost. On the Wrexham to Chester route, Arriva Route 1 is available between the two cities. Both replacement bus services are being provided as the operator works through the repairs backlog affecting the two North Wales rail lines.
