Pop paedo Gary Glitter quizzed in jail over alleged child sex offences from 70s and 80s

Disgraced glam rock singer Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been interviewed by police in prison over alleged sexual offences against a girl under 14. The 82-year-old is accused of committing the offences over a period of time in the late 1970s and early 1980s at a residential property in Kensington, west London. He was questioned under caution following a claim made on January 9, 2025. Glitter is currently held at HMP Channings Wood, a category C prison in Devon.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that "a man in his 80s was interviewed under caution in relation to the reported offending in July 2025." The investigation is ongoing and the victim is being supported by specialist officers. The force stated: "Anyone reporting non-recent sexual offences will be listened to and supported."
Glitter was jailed for 16 years in 2015 for sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980, with his sentence concluding in 2031. He was automatically released from HMP The Verne in February 2023 after serving half his sentence but was returned to custody less than six weeks later when police discovered he had breached his licence conditions by attempting to access the dark web and viewing downloaded images of children.
His bid for freedom was rejected by the Parole Board following a paper review in June, which examines written evidence to determine whether recalled offenders should be re-released or remain incarcerated for the remainder of their sentence.
The original crimes came to light as part of Operation Yewtree, the Metropolitan Police investigation launched following the Jimmy Savile scandal. Glitter was the first person arrested under the operation when detained at his London home in October 2012.
Over the past year, the Met has expanded safeguarding teams and rolled out training on victim approach, resulting in charges more than doubling for child sexual exploitation.
