An investigation has been launched after the car of the late Ricky Hatton was set on fire in a targeted attack outside his son's home in Hattersley, Hyde, Greater Manchester.

Police and fire crews were called to the property on Monday, June 29, at approximately 11:45pm. The incident saw the vehicle set ablaze, with the front window of the house also smashed and the driveway left charred and covered in burnt debris.

Campbell Hatton, 25, who is also a boxer, confirmed on social media that the vehicle belonged to his late father, former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton. Ricky Hatton died last September aged 46 after being found unresponsive at his home.

"At around 11.40pm my dad's car got set on fire outside my house. There is CCTV of two lads. It looks like they came through the valley in Hattersley to do it so if anyone has any information or cameras that might have caught anything let me know," Campbell said.

He expressed his distress at the incident. "I'm absolutely gutted. The car was one of the only things I've got that was my dads and a lot of sentimental stuff ruined. I need to get to the bottom of it. I have a seven-year-old daughter who stays here."

Emergency services remained at the scene conducting investigations throughout Tuesday, June 30. No arrests have yet been made.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers from our Tameside district are appealing for information after a vehicle was deliberately set on fire outside an address. We were called at 11.45pm to reports of a car which had been set on fire. Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. No arrests have been made at this stage. It is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public and investigations are ongoing."
