England's pubs and bars are preparing for record numbers of punters ahead of this evening's crunch match against Panama, with the combination of a Saturday payday and 10pm kick-off expected to create unprecedented demand for drinks.

Pub owners and managers across the country are readying their establishments for what industry insiders are calling potential "pub-aggedon". Martin Shiels, who runs the popular Scolt Head Pub in North London, told the Daily Star: "We're expecting a mammoth day especially if the weather stays as it is. The first game was chaos and now we think this one will be carnage too especially being a weekend game where most have the no work the next day."

Shiels explained his pub had been preparing for weeks specifically for this fixture. "We've ordered in as much beer as we can so we don't run dry. We've also had to close our restaurant to make room for another screen," he said.

Some Three Lions fans are planning marathon drinking sessions. England fan Ambrose Norman, 21, told the Star he would be in the boozer from 5am minimum if he could, adding that he hoped to be drinking all day. Others are taking their support further afield, with 22-year-old Olly White revealing he was heading to Spain for the occasion. "I'm flying to Benidorm for the match. I'm going to be going flat out and I'm starting as soon as I can," he said.

Industry experts are predicting the match will bring significant revenue to UK pubs. Emma McClarkin from the British Beer and Pub Association said: "Even with the slightly later kick-off time we're predicting that pubs across the UK will sell an extra 4.5 million pints with fans thirsty for a quality match." This is expected to bring in a revenue boost of £22.5 million for the sector, as England's boozers prepare for one of their busiest days of the tournament.
