The body of a 55-year-old woman has been recovered from Swan Pool in Sandwell Valley Country Park after she got into trouble in the water on Saturday afternoon. Emergency services were called to the scene in West Bromwich at around 4:45pm on June 27.

Specialist water rescue firefighters from the West Midlands Fire Service Technical Rescue Unit attended the scene with first responders arriving in around 5 minutes. Police and ambulance services also responded to the incident.

Specialist teams from fire and rescue were deployed into the water where they recovered the body. Despite the best efforts of West Midlands Fire Service, Police and Ambulance Service, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Our thoughts are with her family at this tragic time," a police statement confirmed. Officers are supporting the family. The force added that "Her death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and we will be liaising with the coroner."

The incident comes amid warnings of a likely rise in water-related deaths due to extreme weather. It follows the death of Hayden Jones-Powell, aged 13, who went missing after swimming at Meynell Lake in Leicestershire on June 25. His family described the West Bromwich Albion fan as a cheeky boy.

Earlier in May, Lillianna Tomlinson lost her life after getting into difficulties at Kingsbury Water Park near Staffs on May 25. Emergency rescue teams rushed to that scene at 6:10pm and spent over an hour searching before her body was retrieved at 7:20pm. Eyewitnesses reported that she had been part of a group jumping from a bridge into the water when she vanished beneath the surface.
